Opening Soon in the Design District: A Barbecue Joint With a 50-Foot-Tall Ferris Wheel
Ferris Wheelers Backyard BBQ will open right around the same time State Fair of Texas kicks off in Dallas. That can’t be a coincidence.
The new Ferris Wheelers in Dallas’ Design District has no affiliation to the fair, but it seems to take inspiration from its Lone Star State love. The restaurant was “created in the image of a true Texan,” says a press release, and will sling barbecue, beer and live country music very soon.
That 50-foot Ferris wheel in the backyard is fully functional, meaning you can take a spin before or after playing bar games like Jenga, oversized checkers and more on the the 7,000 square-foot patio.
Pitmaster Doug Pickering’s menu will include brisket, sausage, turkey breast and more. A statement says Pickering’s barbecue style is influenced by “Kansas City, Memphis, Texas and beyond” — so don’t necessarily expect the straight-ahead Central Texas style that’s so popular in our area.
The restaurateurs opening Ferris Wheelers operate High Fives and Whipper Snapper, both on Henderson Avenue in Dallas, among other bars.
The new Ferris Wheelers will open where Buck’s Prime was. (Not sure where that is? It’s near the Rodeo Goat in the Dallas Design District.)
